Passing your driving test is a fantastic achievement, but it’s only the beginning of becoming a safe, confident and experienced driver.
Many newly qualified drivers pass their test without driving on motorways, travelling on rural roads, driving after dark or experiencing difficult weather conditions. That’s completely normal, but these are situations you’ll eventually face as an independent driver.
The Pass Plus course has been developed by the DVSA to help you gain valuable real-world driving experience in a safe and supportive environment. At Pro Drivers Academy, we’ll guide you through each stage of the course, helping you develop the confidence, awareness and decision-making skills needed for everyday driving.
Whether you’ve recently passed your test or simply want to improve your confidence behind the wheel, Pass Plus is an excellent way to continue developing your driving skills.

Pass Plus is a practical post-test driving course designed by the DVSA to help newly qualified drivers build on the skills they’ve already learned.
Unlike your learner lessons, Pass Plus isn’t about preparing for another driving test. Instead, it’s designed to give you experience in a wider variety of driving environments while improving your confidence, awareness and ability to deal with situations that many new drivers haven’t yet encountered.
Every lesson is practical wherever possible and is completed at your own pace with guidance from your instructor throughout the course.
Because the course is based on continuous assessment, there’s no pressure of sitting another driving test at the end.
Learning doesn’t stop the day you pass your driving test.
In fact, many drivers say they learn the most during their first few months of driving independently.
Pass Plus gives you the opportunity to gain experience with an experienced instructor sitting beside you, helping you deal with situations that may otherwise feel challenging on your own.
By completing the course, you’ll become more confident when driving on unfamiliar roads, improve your ability to spot hazards earlier and develop smoother, safer driving habits that will benefit you for years to come.
Some insurance companies may also recognise Pass Plus and offer discounts to eligible drivers. As every insurer is different, we always recommend checking directly with your provider.
Pass Plus is ideal if you’ve recently passed your driving test and want to continue improving your driving skills.
It’s also suitable if you’ve been driving for a while but would like extra experience before regularly driving on motorways, country roads or longer journeys.
Whether you’re preparing for a daily commute, planning longer trips or simply want greater confidence behind the wheel, Pass Plus provides valuable experience that many drivers never receive during their learner training.
The Pass Plus course is divided into six practical modules, each focusing on a different type of driving environment.
Throughout the course you’ll continue developing your observation, planning, hazard awareness and decision-making while learning how to adapt your driving safely to different road conditions.
You’ll also improve your confidence, anticipation, road positioning, speed management and overall awareness, helping you become a calmer, safer and more responsible driver.
Busy towns and city centres present a wide variety of hazards that require good observation and careful planning.
During this module you’ll improve your awareness around pedestrians, cyclists, buses, parked vehicles, busy junctions, traffic lights and complex road layouts. You’ll also learn how to plan further ahead, position your vehicle correctly and make smooth, well-informed decisions in heavier traffic.
Every driver will eventually encounter rain, fog, bright sunshine, strong winds or icy conditions.
This module explains how different weather conditions affect your vehicle, visibility and stopping distances. You’ll learn how to adapt your driving safely, use your vehicle’s safety features correctly and reduce the risks associated with poor weather.
Where conditions allow, practical driving will be included. If the weather isn’t suitable on the day, this module will be covered through discussion and planning.
Country roads often present hazards that aren’t found in built-up areas.
You’ll learn how to deal safely with narrow roads, sharp bends, changing speed limits, hidden junctions, hills, farm vehicles, horses, cyclists and animals while improving your ability to recognise potential hazards much earlier.
The emphasis is on planning ahead and adapting your driving safely to changing road conditions.
Driving after dark requires a different approach to observation and planning.
During this module you’ll learn how reduced visibility affects driving, how to use your vehicle’s lights correctly and how to recognise hazards much earlier when visibility is limited.
We’ll also discuss the effects of glare from other vehicles, judging speed and distance at night and driving safely on both lit and unlit roads.
Dual carriageways introduce higher speeds and heavier traffic, making good observation and lane discipline even more important.
You’ll learn how to join and leave safely, choose the correct lane, maintain safe following distances and overtake safely when appropriate.
This module helps prepare you for driving confidently on faster roads while maintaining good awareness of the traffic around you.
Many newly qualified drivers feel nervous about motorway driving simply because they’ve never experienced it before.
This module covers joining and leaving motorways safely, understanding motorway signs, using acceleration and deceleration lanes correctly, maintaining lane discipline and travelling safely alongside larger vehicles.
You’ll also learn what to do if you break down and how to plan longer motorway journeys confidently.
Where practical motorway driving isn’t possible, the subject will be covered fully through theory and discussion.
Booking your Pass Plus course is simple.
Once you’ve booked with Pro Drivers Academy, we’ll arrange your lessons around your availability. The course includes a minimum of six hours of practical tuition, although some drivers may choose additional training if they’d like more experience in certain areas.
Each lesson focuses on building your confidence while working through the official Pass Plus syllabus in a relaxed and supportive environment.
Rather than rushing through the modules, we’ll make sure you’re comfortable and confident before moving on.
One of the biggest questions we’re asked is whether Pass Plus ends with another driving test.
The answer is no.
Instead of sitting another practical exam, your driving will be assessed continuously throughout the course by your instructor.
As you complete each module, your progress will be recorded against the official Pass Plus standards. This creates a much more relaxed learning experience where the focus is on improving your driving rather than worrying about passing a test.
Once you’ve successfully completed all six modules, your instructor will complete the official Pass Plus Training Report Form and submit the necessary paperwork on your behalf.
There are no additional tests to book and no examiner waiting at the end of the course.
After the paperwork has been processed, you’ll receive your official Pass Plus Certificate of Completion, confirming that you’ve successfully completed the nationally recognised Pass Plus course.
Some insurance companies may recognise this qualification when calculating your premium, although discounts vary between providers.
More importantly, you’ll finish the course with greater confidence, valuable real-world driving experience and the skills needed to deal with a much wider range of driving situations safely and independently.
At Pro Drivers Academy, our aim isn’t simply to help you complete the Pass Plus course—it’s to help you become a confident driver for life.
Lessons are delivered on a one-to-one basis in a relaxed and friendly environment, allowing you to build confidence at your own pace.
Whether you’re looking to improve your motorway driving, gain more experience on rural roads or simply feel more confident driving independently, we’ll tailor the course to suit your individual needs while ensuring every part of the official Pass Plus syllabus is completed thoroughly.
