Pass Plus is a structured six-module driving course created by the Driving Standards Agency (DSA), now part of the DVSA (Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency).
It is aimed at newly qualified drivers of any age and focuses on driving situations that new drivers often have limited experience in.
The course is delivered by a DVSA-registered Approved Driving Instructor (ADI) and is assessed throughout — there is no test at the end.

Introduces higher-speed road driving.
Covers:
• Joining and leaving dual carriageways
• Lane discipline
• Safe following distances
• Reading road signs and markings
• Forward planning and anticipation
One of the most valuable parts of Pass Plus for new drivers.
Covers:
• Joining motorways safely using slip roads
• Correct use of acceleration lanes
• Lane discipline and lane changing
• Dealing with fast-moving traffic
• Motorway signs and signals
• Leaving the motorway safely
No.
There is no driving test and no pass or fail.
Your driving is assessed continuously during the course, with each module marked as Achieved or Exceeded.
The focus is on development, confidence and safe driving, not pressure or examination conditions.
It’s important to understand how the Pass Plus certificate is issued.
• Your instructor does NOT issue the certificate
• Your ADI completes the official Pass Plus Training Report Form
• Both the instructor and the pupil must sign the form
• The completed form is then sent to the DVSA
• The DVSA issues the official Pass Plus Certificate
This ensures the course meets national DVSA standards.
Some insurance companies offer discounts for drivers who have completed Pass Plus. Discounts vary between insurers and are not guaranteed, but many drivers find the course helps reduce insurance premiums.
