If you’re ready to start your driving journey, you might be wondering — how do I get a driving licence?
At Pro Drivers Academy, we guide learners through every step — from applying for your first licence to passing your driving test with confidence.
Here’s a simple breakdown of the process 👇
Before you can take lessons or book your test, you’ll need a provisional driving licence.
Who can apply:
You must be at least 15 years and 9 months old.
You can start driving a car once you turn 17 (or 16 if you receive the enhanced rate of the mobility component of Personal Independence Payment).
How to apply:
Apply online via the official GOV.UK website
You’ll need:
• An identity document (e.g., passport)
• Your address history
• Your National Insurance number (if you have one)
Cost (as of May 2025):
£34 when you apply online
£43 if you apply by post
Always check the latest fees on GOV.UK before applying.
Once your provisional licence arrives, you’re ready for the next step!
The theory test checks your road knowledge before you start driving independently. It has two parts:
50 questions on:
• Road signs
• Road rules & the Highway Code
• Safety & alertness
• Hazard awareness
Pass mark: 43 out of 50
Watch 14 video clips of real driving scenes
Click when you spot developing hazards (e.g., a car pulling out)
Pass mark: 44 out of 75
Cost (as of May 2025):
