Preparing for Your Theory Test
Getting ready for your driving theory test is one of the most important steps towards earning your full driving licence. At Pro Drivers Academy, we don’t just prepare you for practical driving — we also support our learners with theory test training, practice questions, and hazard perception guidance.
Here’s everything you need to know about preparing for your theory test.
⸻
1. What the Theory Test Involves
The car theory test in the UK has two parts:
Multiple-Choice Questions
•You’ll be asked 50 questions on a computer screen.
•Topics include:
•Road signs and markings
•Rules of the road and Highway Code
•Alertness and attitude
•Hazard awareness
•Safety and vehicle handling
•Vehicle loading
•Motorway rules
•Pass mark: You must score at least 43 out of 50.
Questions are randomly selected, so it’s important to study all the sections of the Highway Code and DVSA materials.
⸻
Hazard Perception
•You’ll watch 14 video clips that show everyday driving scenes.
•Each clip has at least 1 developing hazard, and 1 clip has 2 hazards.
•You must click the mouse as soon as you spot the hazard. The quicker you respond, the higher your score.
•Pass mark: You must score at least 44 out of 75.
⸻
2. Tips for Passing Your Theory Test
•Study the Highway Code thoroughly — especially traffic signs and rules of the road.
•Use official DVSA learning apps and books — these contain real practice questions.
•Practise hazard perception clips — focus on spotting developing dangers early.
•Take mock tests — at Pro Drivers Academy, we can guide you through practice sessions.
•Don’t rush — take your time reading each multiple-choice question.
